
Dr. Andrew S. Dhanoois a biochemist, educator, and public health advocate with extensive experiencein diabetes care, research, and leadership across the Caribbean and NorthAmerica. He currently serves as a Lecturer of Biology at Bermuda College, wherehe teaches courses in biology, microbiology, and nutrition, and is committed tofostering critical thinking and scientific excellence among his students.
Dr. Dhanoo holds aDoctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry (with High Commendation) from TheUniversity of the West Indies, where his research focused on novel,non-invasive methods for diabetes screening. He also earned a Bachelor ofScience in Biochemistry with First Class Honours and is a Registered PhlebotomyTechnician. His academic career spans over a decade of lecturing atundergraduate and postgraduate levels, alongside postdoctoral research indiabetes, insulin resistance, and public health.
A passionate leader indiabetes advocacy, Dr. Dhanoo has served as President of the DiabetesAssociation of Trinidad and Tobago for the past nine years and has been amember of its Board for over fifteen years. During his tenure, he has ledtransformative national initiatives, including diabetes education programmes,youth development projects, national screening campaigns, and the expansion ofservices such as eye screening, HbA1c testing, and continuous glucosemonitoring support. His work has impacted thousands of individuals andfamilies, while strengthening partnerships across healthcare, government, andcommunity sectors.
Dr. Dhanoo currentlyserves as the Incoming Chair of the North American and Caribbean Region of theInternational Diabetes Federation, reflecting his growing influence in regionaland international diabetes policy and advocacy. He has also contributed toregional health policy through roles on advisory and steering committeesfocused on non-communicable diseases.
His research portfolioincludes multiple peer-reviewed publications and ongoing studies in diabetesscreening, complications, and population health. He has been recognized withnumerous awards, including the Chaconia Medal (Silver) for his contributions tohealthcare and volunteerism (the 2nd-highest national award of the Republic ofTrinidad and Tobago).
Beyond hisprofessional work, Dr. Dhanoo is deeply committed to youth empowerment,education, and community engagement. He has pioneered internship programmes,national school competitions, and volunteer initiatives that have inspired thenext generation of healthcare professionals.
