The blue circle is the universal symbol for diabetes.
It was introduced in 2006 to give diabetes a common identity.
The symbol aims to: Support all existing efforts to raise awareness about diabetes, inspire new activities and bring diabetes to the attention of the general public.
The circle represents unity and the color blue reflects the flag of the United Nations in an effort to unite for diabetes and signal governments everywhere that is time to fight diabetes and reverse global trends.
World Diabetes Day (WDD) is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.
It is an occasion on which people with diabetes, health professionals, diabetes advocates, media, the general public and government organizations unite to raise awareness of diabetes.
Your participation – both in the build-up to and following 14 November – is key to the success of the campaign.
Taking part can be exciting and hugely rewarding!
Here are different ways in which you can get involved:
- Volunteer with us. Lots of exciting events coming up for the month of November!
- Organise a ‘Learn about diabetes’ event in your school, community or church.
- Light up a local landmark, your home or workplace in blue.
- Arrange an activity with your work colleagues.
- Help people learn their potential risk of type 2 diabetes with this online test.
- Promote the WDD (World Diabetes Day) campaign on social media – like and share!
To celebrate World Diabetes Day, the BDA invites the public to attend an open day at their Hilton Hill Diabetes Centre at 22 Princess St, Hamilton from 10am to 2pm on Monday November 14th. There will be free health screenings, healthy food samples, Freestyle Libre raffles and refreshments.
We are grateful to our vendors BGA, Butterfield and Vallis and Dunkley’s who will be providing healthy food options.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Congratulation stop the winners of the Freestyle Libre Draw:
On Friday November 18th the Bermuda Diabetes Association is hosting its annual TAG DAY, Denim Day for Diabetes.
Join the fight against diabetes , wear your blue denim and make a donation to the Bermuda Diabetes Association!
Our tagging stations will be dotted around town and at selected spots on the East and West of the island.
The funds raised from our Denim for Diabetes Day will be used to continue our education and awareness programs in the local community and provide care, medication, and support to help adults and children in financial need.
Visit our website for more information and tagging locations.
If you are unable to participate but would like to join the campaign, please visit our donation page.
A new partnership between the BDA and retail spaces across Hamilton will paint the city blue this November to commemorate Diabetes Awareness Month.
The initiative will see participating stores showcasing denim and/or blue in their windows on the lead up to Denim Day for Diabetes.
By recognizing Diabetes Awareness Month our community is helping to provide a support system for those who are living with diabetes.
The misleading stereotypes surrounding diabetes can be hurtful, however, raising awareness can help highlight the fact that a wide range of ages, races and lifestyles are affected by diabetes.
We appreciate the support of our partners at Calypso, Waterfront Man, Gibbons Co., 1609, Orange Bay, Vineyard Vines, Tabs, Atelerie, Lusso, The Island Shop, Flying Colors, Boyle & Sons and Brown & Co. and look forward to seeing their upcoming blue circle displays.
