Take Charge of Your Health This Diabetes Awareness Month

Are you unsure about your risk for prediabetes or diabetes? This November, in recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month, the Bermuda Diabetes Association invites you to take a simple step toward better health and peace of mind.

Did you know that 1 in 3 people in Bermuda is living with prediabetes - and most don’t even know it? The good news is that diabetes and prediabetes can often be prevented or better managed through early detection and lifestyle changes.

This month, we’re making it easier than ever to understand your risk.

Free HbA1c Screening – Quick, Simple, and Informative

We’re offering FREE HbA1c tests throughout November - a key tool used to measure your average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months.

  • The HbA1c test helps to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.
  • For those already diagnosed, it helps assess how well blood sugars are being controlled.
  • The appointment takes only 15 minutes and involves a small finger prick for a drop of blood.
  • Your results are available on the spot, so you can share them with your doctor right away.

Appointments are available on the following dates:

  • Monday, November 10
  • Thursday, November 13
  • Tuesday, November 18
  • Wednesday, November 19
  • Monday, November 24
  • Thursday, November 27

Location: Bermuda Diabetes Association, 22 Princess Street, City of Hamilton, HM10

If you’ve had an HbA1c test in the past 2–3months, you don’t need to repeat it at this time.

Understanding Your HbA1c Results

  • Below 5.7%: Normal
  • 5.7%–6.4%: Prediabetes (higher risk of developing diabetes)
  • 6.5% or higher: Diabetes

If your result shows prediabetes or diabetes, we encourage you to book an appointment with one of our Registered Dietitians. Our dietitians can help you understand your results, make practical lifestyle changes, and create a nutrition plan to support better blood sugar control.

You don’t need insurance to see our dietitians. If you do have insurance, there is no co-pay for your visits.
