FreeStyle Libre Training (1:1 Sessions)

We provide individual training for the FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus, and FreeStyle Libre 3 systems.

The FreeStyle Libre training session is designed to equip users with the knowledge and skills needed to use the glucose monitoring system effectively. Training covers sensor application and removal, as well as an overview of the device’s features, including how to interpret your glucose data using measures such as Average Glucose and Time in Range.

Before Your Training Session

Please bring your FreeStyle Libre system with you to your appointment so it can be set up during the session. The FreeStyle Libre system is available from the BDA Community Pharmacy and can be purchased with or without a prescription. If you have a prescription, it is helpful to have your prescription sent to pharmacy@diabetes.bm prior to your training session so you can collect the device shortly before your training session. If you have purchased your device elsewhere, simply bring it with you to your appointment.

‍

Do I need a prescription?

The FreeStyle Libre system is covered by all health insurers, although some plans may require a co-pay. A prescription from your doctor is needed if you wish to use insurance coverage. If you are not using health insurance, the system can be purchased without a prescription.

Important Information About FreeStyle Libre 3

  • The Libre 3 system is not compatible with all smartphones in Bermuda.
  • You should download the FreeStyle Libre 3 app (available on the iOS App Store and Google Play) before purchasing the sensor to ensure compatibility.
  • This app is required to start new sensors and view glucose data.
  • Some individuals are able to download the app but cannot successfully pair the sensor - this occurs because Abbott has not configured the Libre 3 for Bermuda as a supported region, which affects compatibility on certain phones.
  • Please note that CGMs measure glucose in interstitial fluid rather than blood, so readings can lag behind finger-prick results, especially during rapid changes. The FreeStyle Libre 3 app has mandatory critical low alerts that cannot be turned off, which may be disruptive for some users (e.g. during meetings or overnight).
